Swifts Fly In!
No it isn't the first day of summer but at least it was fine and, unlike many early season events, our THREE UP actually took place.
Andy put together a field of 15 teams for this traditional season opener and his efforts were rewarded with a good race held in excellent conditions over the Driffield Hardriders 25 course.
A cool head wind on the run to Driffield stretched a few but the final 2/3rds of the course were largely back wind and teams really got into their stride - although one or two really blew apart as they upped the pace over the final lumpy miles.
Winning team, as expected, was Team Swifts Gore-Brown, Cooke and Wainman with a fantastic 53m 16s. Cottingham Coureurs Whitlam, Gromett and Shackleton came closest with 55m 42s very closely followed by Coureurs second team of Lambert, Brearley [D] and Fenton with 56m 02s.
Our own teams gave a good account of themselves with Andy T breaking wind very efficiently for Mark P and Chris Y and just failed to beat the hour with 60m 51s - good ride lads.
Organiser Andy F along with Tony Washbrook and Steve Carrigan 'encouraged' each other round to a final time for the third man home of 70m 18s. Although it must be said two were recovering prior to the third arriving!!!!!!
Our third team of Les Phillips, Rob Badger and Andy Vaughan stayed together as a three and despite a few difficult periods completed as a team in 76m 34s.
Well done to all who rode and thanks to all those who assisted in any way with yet another successful CRC event.
