The first running of the PETE TAYLOR MEMORIAL ROAD RACE on the Newbald circuit saw a field of 39 take to the course. Run 'Aussie Pursuit' style, with three groups, the race pace remained high as the chase groups gradually reeled in the long markers. By the end of the third lap all riders were together and despite Jason Young and Jake Tanner trying to break away all were back together by the start of the final climb when the inevitable bunch sprint took place.
Scott Thwaites [Endura] took top honours with Steve Guymer [Raleigh] in second spot. Dave Shackleton [ Cott. Coureurs] rode to third.
The PETE TAYLOR trophy for top Yorkshire veteran went to ex British Champion / International rider / top professional...... JOHN TANNER [Sportscover] - a very fitting first winner of the 'pot'!
The race was, as always, smoothly run and organised by John Fenton with the help of members and friends from City Road Club whose input was greatly appreciated by the riders and organisers.
